I’m Jean-Christophe Morin, a DJ based near Bordeaux after 22 years abroad. ÔLOCO is my event agency for weddings, birthdays, and corporate events in Bordeaux, Gironde, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

Bilingual in French and English, I bring the same energy to local and international events, making sure every guest feels welcome and part of the vibe.

Influenced by the spirit of 2manydjs, Fatboy Slim, New Order, Radio Nova, Laurent Garnier, and Purple Disco Machine, I crafted my sound in the feverish nights of Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, and Berlin.

The Party

Do you have any experience?

I have been collecting and mixing since the age of 13 (I was born in 1969). Over the years, I’ve built up a passionate musical culture and performed in many different settings (bars, birthday parties, weddings, New Year’s Eve events, school parties, farewell celebrations, etc.) across several countries (France, Malaysia, Dubai, Germany).

What is your musical style?

I’ve always been in love with a wide range of music and constantly explore new labels, producers, and remixes. I draw inspiration from the spirit and eclecticism of 2manyDJs, La Churascaia, Fatboy Slim, Radio Nova, and Studio 54. I like to push boundaries, offering twists and surprises.

My inspiration comes from a vast and diverse music library: pop, electronic, disco, funk, rock, Latin, soul, 80s, lounge, jazz, house, oriental, RnB, 90s dance, hip hop, techno, ballads, reggae, salsa, world music, new wave, rap, metal, 70s, 60s, rock & roll…

My sets are often described as electrifying—blending the best and the rare, with unifying anthems, carefully selected remixes, original mashups, and timeless classics—building bridges between mainstream hits and more refined sounds, for both younger and older crowds.

I put a lot of care into my transitions and mashups to keep the energy at an optimal level, while staying highly attentive to the audience to make sure I play the right music, at the right volume, at the right time.

By the way, in Brazilian slang ÔLOCO means: “this is crazy!”

Do you host or animate with the microphone?

By essence, ÔLOCO values discretion: the DJ is not the star of the night — only the hosts and the guests are! I focus on the music to keep the energy level high on the dance floor and ensure smooth, high-quality transitions.

I don’t host games or engage in heavy microphone use; my interventions are kept to the essential. That said, I can make announcements at your request (for example, to guide guests). If surprises or games are prepared by your friends and family, I let them handle the microphone, which makes the moment all the more personal and meaningful for you.

Can we give you a list of songs?

Of course — it’s actually essential that you share your “must-play” favorites to guide and inspire me, so I can create the best possible experience for you. Example playlists from Spotify, Deezer, or YouTube are the easiest way to do this.

Even more importantly, I’ll ask you for your 5 unmissable songs and the 5 songs you absolutely don’t want to hear. After that, it’s my turn to craft the right mix and find the alchemy that will delight the widest audience.

Oh, and by the way… I also have a blacklist of my own. 😉

Can our guests make song requests?

Of course, if you’d like. That said, not all requests can be accepted… Some guests might not think about the impact a song could have on the dance floor’s energy at that moment, or may want to hear something very niche that only they would enjoy. Others, however, are fantastic sources of inspiration and help guide the vibe!

To handle requests smoothly, I use a revolutionary system: guests simply scan a QR code and send their song requests directly into my DJ software, where they appear on a list I can draw from throughout the evening!

Are lights really that important?

We don’t always pay attention to it or even notice it consciously, but lighting plays a huge role in the success of an event or a party.

Think of a concert, a televised music show, or simply a nightclub: a tailored lighting design (colors, movements, etc.) is created by light jockeys and is an integral part of the experience.

Lights surround the guests and create atmospheres that shift with the energy on the dance floor. They highlight the venue and enhance the space. On the other hand, using cheap lights in a constant, uncontrolled, unsynchronized way will only blind everyone and can ruin the evening.

What lighting effects do you recommend?

I recommend and apply 5 basic rules to light up a dance floor:

  1. Less is more! You don’t need dozens of spotlights or random lasers all crammed into the same space. The right number is what fits the venue — and, above all, fixtures that complement each other rather than just piling up.

  2. Define the space by placing lights around the dance floor and use indirect lighting to enhance the architecture and create a warm atmosphere. For this, I work with up to 12 wireless RGBW LED uplights, battery-powered and remotely controlled, allowing for an infinite palette of custom colors. Strategically placed, they reveal volumes, highlight stone walls, and beautifully showcase facades and gardens.

  3. Don’t be afraid of darkness! Nothing is worse — and more tiring — than lights that stay on constantly. It’s essential to alternate lit and dark phases to truly appreciate the effects.

  4. No more than 2 colors at once! A dance floor is not a Christmas tree!

  5. Precise control of all lighting effects thanks to wireless DMX programming — mastering movements, speed, colors, etc. in sync with the music and key moments of the event (speeches, first dance, and so on).

How do we prepare for the event?

We can meet over a drink or via video call (WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Zoom) to discuss your wishes, needs, and the schedule for your big day.

I’ll guide you through a questionnaire with several parts: first about you, then about your guests’ profile. There’s a section on the logistical flow of your evening, timing, and the technical aspects of the venue. Then comes the most exciting part: the music — your favorites, your level of affinity with different styles (not at all, a little, medium, or a lot), and most importantly your blacklist of genres or artists. This questionnaire allows me to clearly understand expectations ahead of time and prepare for an unforgettable night.

It’s also important to coordinate with other vendors (caterer, photographer, etc.) and gather all requests and needs from friends and family in terms of music, equipment, and timing.

In the end, a clear timeline of the evening will be built and finalized by the big day.

Do you need to visit the venue before the event?

Ideally, yes, I carry out an on-site visit before the big day to anticipate any practical or technical issues.

When that’s not possible, I rely on photos, videos, or floor plans of your venue that you can provide.

Equipment

What happens in case of a technical failure?

My equipment is in perfect condition and highly reliable. Nevertheless, I always have backup gear to replace essential components in case of failure. The goal is to keep your party going without interruption.

How long does it take to set up the equipment?

Setup and takedown times vary depending on the package and any selected options:

  • Basic Package: Setup 1h / Takedown 30 min

  • Standard Package: Setup 2h / Takedown 50 min

  • Premium Package: Setup 4h / Takedown 1h45

Do we sign a contract?

A clear and detailed contract covering every aspect of your service is drawn up as soon as the quote is accepted.

How can we book the date for our event?

Your event date is officially reserved upon signing the contract and paying the deposit by bank transfer.

How is your service paid for?

30% retainer by bank transfer upon signing the contract to reserve the date, with the remaining balance paid by bank transfer no later than one week before the event.

Do you have professional liability insurance?

I am covered by professional liability insurance (MAIF 7930221B). It protects me against any damage or accidents that may occur during a performance.
